Nathan den Rowan

Nathan is the King of Rowan and holds a permanent seat on the Council of Mages. He never wanted to be king, but when his brother died without an heir, Cristov, the Leader of the Circle of Mages, forced him to take the throne to avoid an impending civil war over it. Nathan despises the job, and only does it to keep Cristov off his back.
Even so, he is considered one of the greatest of the Rowan kings, and has held the throne peacefully, for the most part, for more than five hundred years. Because he keeps Rowan peaceful and prosperous, his longevity is not disputed, and his citizens tend ‘forget’ a lot when pressed to remember details of how long King Nathan has ruled, or why that might be.
Nathan is easily the most powerful of all the mages. Most mages or magickers can master one or two specific types of skill, such as fire magic, or healing, etc., but Nathan can master all of them. He is brilliant, often flippant, very temperamental, and is given to throwing gigantic, magical tantrums. He has a love/hate relationship with his wife, Catherine, and fighting seems to be the way they express their love to each other.
But when Jahx leaves a small and stunningly powerful girl magicker with him, Nathan’s capricious personality mellows a great deal, despite a capricious personality of her own.
