Cullen Dahrvi

Picture
Cullen is the Royal High Healer. He is one of Nathan’s closest confidants, and Nathan looks up to him as much as he argues with him.

Cullen had a troubled childhood. Born a High Healer – a magicker with natural healing talent – he was forced to study healing from the moment he began his schooling, and Cullen hated it with a passion. Unfortunately, Cullen was a VERY passionate boy, which rankled with his family. He and his father locked horns almost from his infancy, and his mother often sided against Cullen, because he was against the Healer ways.

Cullen had an alternate skill that he preferred over healing – that of growing any kind of plant his mind could devise from any element. However, he was forbidden to use it. His parents insisted he focus solely on healing. In retaliation, Cullen grew his ‘plants’ everywhere. The house was a veritable forest. His father’s healer’s robe was a snarl of leaves and twigs, and sometimes vials of curatives would explode as saplings shot out of them.

Because of his obstinacy, Cullen got into trouble a lot. In his teen years, he fell in with a bad crowd. He was in and out of the guardhouse holding cell for disorderly conduct, stealing, and general thuggery, until his mischief turned to real trouble and he was sentenced to five years in the Tenarian desert prison.

When he finally returned to Rowan, he joined the Circle of Mages, where he eventually came to peace with healing, founded his own guild and became the Royal High Healer.

Even though Cullen has settled down quite a bit, he still has a little of the thug left in him, and would break a fellow's nose as soon as look at him with the proper motivation. He'd heal it afterward, but he wouldn't do it gently and his victim would probably prefer to leave it broken than suffer through such a healing.

When Jahx’s new bride comes to stay at Rowan Castle, Cullen is at first curious about her, but soon finds a close connection to her. Trapped in a bitter marriage of his own, Cullen almost wishes that he and Arinda could help each other out of their predicaments, if in reality that were possible. Cullen becomes her staunchest ally and fiercest representative within the Circle.
