I am currently reviewing the submission that I sent Mundania, just so I can refresh my memory about the version I sent them. I have oh so many versions. I compulsively keep a copy of every single one. I have also come to the conclusion that I am a compulsive editor.
Even now, as I review I have the compulsion to edit. Let’s just tweak this word. Oh, that sentence would sound much better like this. It’s ridiculous! I can’t look at my own writing without wanting to change it! And I can’t change it now! When my editor contacts me with edits, we’d no longer be talking about the same copy.
But what I’d really like to know is where did all these darn typos come from? It’s like they multiplied behind my back! Like a closet full of coat hangers you don’t need, or dust bunnies under the bed. There is MS Word trying to make an idiot of me AGAIN! There are mistakes where I haven’t even edited, and I’m thinking, “How the heck did that happen? I know I went over that before!” Evidently my computer is infected with stealth typos. Yep, ‘world-class ninja stealth typos’ whose sole purpose is to make me feel stupid. And they are extremely good at what they do.
I SO need to improve my proofreading. Do you have any great proofreading strategies to share?
