This week I have queried eight agencies. On at least half of them, I remembered to supply my contact information, so that's an improvement over the first three. Unfortunately, on two of those queries, I wrote 'your agencies guidelines' instead of 'your agency's guidelines', so we'll see about that.
What is that you say? Can they possibly be that picky? Damn straight, they can! They have the whip hand and they know it. I'm not saying that's a bad thing. They get kajillions of queries every day - being picky helps them wade through all of them.
I know that, and I should have paid more attention. That is my big battle - I am a terrible proof reader and it seems like I always end up missing at least one oopsey. I really do wish I was better at it, and I do try, but it's one of those frustrating things for me. Maybe when I become a big girl, grown up writer, I'll have conquered that battle. Hope springs etermal! :o)
But hey, at least I'm making progress. That's something. My plan is to keep sending out those queries until I get someone's attention or run out of reputable agencies. Someone said recently, "Get off your butt and go achieve your dreams!" I don't know the person. I was reading it, and to be honest, it pissed me off. Who are you to tell me what to do, Bucko? You don't know my life!
Then I started thinking about it, and realized that the person was right. If you have a dream you want to achieve, the only thing you can do is get busy and go get it. No one will bring it to you. Ever.
As they say, "The truth will set you free, but first it will piss you off." So very true.
