I had the privilege of hearing Jonathan Maberry speak at the last Nebraska Writer's Guild conference, and his advice on blogging was, 'keep it simple, keep it positive, don't slam other writers, and please, please, please stop blogging about how to write.' I'm paraphrasing, of course, but his advice did give me a lot to think about. I mean, even Stephen King, himself, in his book 'On Writing' said he didn't think he was any great authority on writing and what made him think he had any place telling others how to write.
Good reading material has been a bit scarce for me lately - I'm probably the world's pickiest and most difficult to please reader - but when I do read something I really enjoyed, I'll let you know. For instance, the last thing I read that I really liked was 'The Goddess Hunt' by Aimee Carter. Well written and engaging, plus I'm a sucker for Greek mythology. Hey, I know some of the old text books about it are a real snooze, but read Edith Hamilton's 'Mythology' (copyright 1942), and you'll find it a lot more interesting! Anyway, I enjoyed this novella, and look forward to poking my nose into her first book in this series, 'The Goddess Test'.
Lastly, but not least, I'm reviving Whopper of the Day. Honestly, guys, I can't promise a new one every week - new responsibilities at my money job do keep me hopping - but I will try. I've pulled out seven of my favorites for you to revisit and enjoy. The only one I couldn't find was the one about the boogeyman wall. I'll try and find it - I liked that one.
